A Summer Solstice Sunrise

The summer solstice is a special time of year – a chance to pause, appreciate nature and celebrate the longest day.

After an atmospheric evening of feasting and fire, our Planting Officer, Toby Branston, rose before dawn and headed to the Wool water meadows. Accompanied by the songs of Cetti's, sedge and reed warblers, he witnessed a spectacular sunrise framed by one of Dorset's magnificent oak trees.

As Toby reflected:

"Maximum energy and feeling so alive. Nature's daily light show, framed by an oak to fill the soul."

Moments like these remind us why Dorset's trees and landscapes are so important. They provide places for wildlife to thrive, inspire us through the changing seasons and connect us with the natural world.

As the wheel of the year turns and the days begin to shorten once again, we're reminded of the importance of protecting the trees, woodlands and wild places that make Dorset so special.
